Report: Seahawks' Kam Chancellor holding out in search of new contract

Every Seattle Seahawks player reported to training camp on time Thursday, except one.

Safety Kam Chancellor was not present when players arrived, and is planning to hold out during camp, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Reports surfaced Wednesday that Chancellor and pass rusher Michael Bennett were considering not showing up because they were unhappy with their current contracts. It appears Chancellor has made up his mind not to attend.

Chancellor signed a four-year, $28-million deal with the Seahawks in 2013.

A three-time Pro Bowler, Chancellor is a crucial member of the Seahawks' vaunted secondary and may have picked a strategic time to make a pitch for a new deal.

Free safety Earl Thomas recently indicated he is unsure if he will be ready for Week 1 after recovering from a torn labrum and if Chancellor decides to extend the holdout into the regular season, it could leave the Seahawks vulnerable.

The Seahawks currently have several key members of the organization that need to be taken care of, with the much publicized Russell Wilson negotiations garnering all the headlines. Seattle is also working on a new deal for linebacker Bobby Wagner, so Chancellor's decision only further complicates matters for the team.
