The New York Giants signed veteran free-agent receiver James Jones to a one-year contract Thursday, according to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post.

Jones will be travelling to New York on Friday to meet with the club and have his physical.

The former Green Bay Packers standout is coming off a one-year stint with the Oakland Raiders, where he led the team with 73 catches for 666 yards and six touchdowns.

While the 31-year-old is likely no longer near the height of his professional game, his veteran experience would be a key addition for the Giants as fellow wideout Victor Cruz continues to work his way back from a torn patellar tendon.

Jones was a reliable target over the course of his seven-year career in Green Bay, recording an impressive 37 touchdowns over that span, including a career-best 14 scores in 2012.
