Jets release QB Matt Simms

Derik Hamilton / USA TODAY Sports

The New York Jets released quarterback Matt Simms on Thursday.

The 26-year-old Simms signed with the club in December 2012 as an undrafted free agent but was the final cut in training camp. He then signed a future/reserve contract before making the team as a backup in 2013.

Simms appeared in one game in 2014, serving primarily as a backup to Geno Smith.

Simms may be most famous for being the son of Phil Simms, who steered the New York Giants to two Super Bowl victories and now works as a sportscaster for CBS.
