Analysis:

Southward played safety as a rookie, but at 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, he offers the ample size on the outside that new coach Dan Quinn valued in Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner, two of his former pupils during his time coordinating Seattle's defense. While Southward will undoubtedly face a steep learning curve in changing positions, he could push Robert Alford for the starting job opposite Desmond Trufant.
