NFC East Notebook: Parkey embracing longer PAT; Redskins have needs at safety

Pat Lovell / USA TODAY Sports

Every Friday, theScore's NFL editors will bring you a roundup of everything you need to know from around the division with the NFC East Notebook.

Dallas Cowboys

Terrance Williams working to build trust with Tony Romo. Getting a chance to work with his quarterback in OTAs for the first time, Williams is trying to build a rapport with Romo to get to the next level.

Cowboys' past drafts used little facts, lots of gamble. Draft protocols have changed immeasurably in 45 years. So much so that the Cowboys' 1969 draft strategy is now almost unrecognizable.

Frederick concerned with O-line's hard work over legacy. After rookie La'el Collins made some bold predictions at his introductory press conference, Travis Frederick tried to apply a veteran's rationale to the Cowboys' O-line legacy.

New York Giants

Beatty's injury throws Giants' plans a curveball. Losing your starting left tackle this early in the offseason is a huge blow for any team. The Giants have very few immediate options to replace Beatty.

Comparing Landon Collins' upcoming rookie year against others. Looking at how other highly drafted safeties fared in their rookie seasons, Landon Collins has a lot of poor recent history to overcome.

Giants owner insists no back door deal exists for Patriots. John Mara believes no quid pro quo took place between Robert Kraft and Roger Goodell over Deflategate situation.

Philadelphia Eagles

Eagles kicker embracing new extra point rules. Cody Parkey sees the new 33-yard extra point as a way to improve his game. He'd prefer a move back than shrinking the width of the goal posts.

Kelly has NFL history of not attempting two-pointers. Despite the Eagles being the team that proposed an easier two-point conversion, Chip Kelly's NFL history shows he is fairly conservative on tries.

Offensive line holds steady heading into next season. The Eagles didn't add much via free agency or the draft, meaning the team is comfortable with what they have in front of Sam Bradford for the moment.

Washington Redskins

Preston Smith has all the tools of a pass rusher. The hands and long arms of Redskins second-round pick Preston Smith provide the rookie with an edge as a pass rusher. The Redskins hope this will lead to immediate production.

Arie Kouandjio looking to outshine his name. Fourth-round pick Arie Kouandjio, projected to go in the fifth or sixth round, is looking to dispel the "name only, can't play" tag of an SEC coach.

Redskins still have glaring needs at safety, quarterback. Those two positions are in serious need of an upgrade for the Redskins to be competitive. Or a current roster player needs to step up in 2015.
