Raiders' Derek Carr sits out OTAs with reported finger injury

The Oakland Raiders kicked off Phase 3 of their offseason program Tuesday without starting quarterback Derek Carr.

The franchise signal-caller is dealing with a finger injury. Despite reports that it may require surgery, his agent Tim Younger told Lev Facher of the San Francisco Chronicle his client doesn't need a procedure.

"I don't know where this idea came up that he's going to be having surgery," Younger said. "The situation, I don't even want to call it an injury, is very minor, and we're just being cautious."

"I think he's probably going to be throwing before the end of (offseason team activities)," Younger added.

Head coach Jack Del Rio declined to get into the specifics of the second-year quarterback's ailment, but indicated that Carr's preparation for the 2015 season isn't in jeopardy.

"Time missed in May is better than time missed in September," Del Rio said after practice, according to Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area. "You're often more capable of taking whatever time is necessary to make sure you put things behind you."
