Raiders owner Mark Davis: 'We're trying to stay in Oakland'

With an apparent lack of progress being made toward building a new stadium in Oakland, the Raiders are one of several organizations currently in the running to relocate to Los Angeles.

Speaking with reporters at the league meetings in San Francisco on Tuesday, owner Mark Davis indicated that his priority remains to keep the team in Oakland, but said contingency plans are moving forward.

"We're trying to stay in Oakland, but we have a parallel effort in Carson (Calif.)," Davis explained, according to Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post.

The Raiders owner has long been candid about his intentions to find the best possible situation for the organization, whether that involves building a new stadium on the current site in Oakland or joining forces with the San Diego Chargers on a joint project in the L.A. area.

Davis denied Tuesday that he has any interest in sharing a stadium with the San Francisco 49ers in nearby Santa Clara or moving to St. Louis.

Either way, the organization has a desperate need for a new stadium, as it's become incredibly clear that the facilities are having a negative impact on the on-field product.

With $500 million to offer toward a potential $900-million stadium project in Oakland, Davis turned the focus to the city and its officials when asked what it would take to keep the Raiders in the Bay Area long term.

"Ask the city of Oakland and the county of Alameda," he said, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Deadlines will always spur action in such high-stakes negotiations, but it appears as though there may only be a month or so remaining for the Raiders and the city of Oakland to reach a solution.

Despite the preference of Davis and the organization to remain in the place they've called home since returning from Los Angeles in 1995, the odds of relocation seemingly increase as each day passes without a new local stadium deal.
