Report: Eagles' Marcus Smith has added 15 pounds of muscle

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Marcus Smith has added 15 pounds to his frame in an attempt to boost his game, teammate Connor Barwin said.

"Physically, he looks different. He gained 15 pounds, he put on a lot of muscle," Barwin told CSNPhilly.com. "He's one of the stronger guys on our defense now. He took the offseason and did what he needed to do, which was get bigger, stronger."

Barwin added: "Now we're just excited to see what happens when we put the pads on."

Smith, the Eagles' first-round pick in 2014, was a tremendous disappointment as a rookie. Drafted with the expectation he would bolster the Eagles' occasionally anemic pass-rush, Smith was moved to inside linebacker and failed to earn significant playing time.

Smith finished the season with 68 defensive snaps - only 5.9 percent of the total snaps possible. Most embarrassing of all, Smith failed to record a single tackle.

Earlier this offseason, former Eagles assistant coach Tra Thomas described Smith's physique as being "like a high school athlete" and suggested Smith add 15-20 pounds.

Smith apparently heard the criticism.
