49ers' NaVorro Bowman 'looking great' on practice field

The San Francisco 49ers could use some good news when it comes to the linebacker position, and they appear to be finally getting it with NaVorro Bowman.

After missing the entire 2014 campaign due to an ACL and MCL tear, Bowman is back on the practice field and in fine form, according to his head coach Jim Tomsula.

"Bowman’s looking great," Tomsula said, Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reports. "Bow looks great. I’d say we’re more treating Bow like a vet than we’re treating Bow like a post-injury guy right now."

Linebacker was once an embarrassment of riches for the 49ers, but the retirements of Patrick Willis and Chris Borland have left the team thin at the position.

Despite the changes to the roster, Tomsula is happy where things are at linebacker. In addition to Bowman, Nick Moody, a sixth-round pick in 2013, has also caught his eye.

"Right now, where we’re at, things are really good out there." Tomsula said. “I’m talking about the guys who are on the field for us. Talking about Michael Wilhoite and NaVorro Bowman, but a guy that’s really moving around and feeling the defense in the right way is Nick Moody. I’ve been pulling for Nick. He’s working really hard."

The group doesn't figure to be as good as it once was, but if Bowman doesn't have a setback and Moody continues to progress, perhaps the position won't be a point of weakness for San Francisco after all.
