Rookie quarterback Connor Halliday leaving Redskins

Former Washington State quarterback Connor Halliday, who signed with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent, is no longer with the team.

The Redskins did not provide a reason for Halliday's departure, but John Keim of ESPN.com reports that the rookie has lost his love for football and is done with the game for now.

Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan was impressed with Halliday's college production and saw him play a few times at WSU. Halliday threw for 11,304 yards and 90 touchdowns in his four seasons with the Cougars.

"He has a ways to go physically getting bigger and stronger, but a quarterback gets measured on statistics - wins and losses and putting numbers up," McCloughan said of Halliday earlier this week. "Not knocking Washington State whatsoever, but the talent level wasn't huge and he found a way to be successful."

With Kirk Cousins and Colt McCoy both entering the final year of their contracts, Washington could use another young arm. The team brought two other quarterbacks in on a tryout basis: Georgia's Hutson Mason and USC's Anthony Neyer.
