Terrelle Pryor on Bengals tryout: 'If I can't play quarterback, I can't play football'

Participating in the Cincinnati Bengals' rookie minicamp on a tryout basis this weekend, Terrelle Pryor may be running out of chances to make it as a quarterback in the NFL.

Though his elite athleticism could almost certainly give him some upside as a either a tight end or situational wide receiver, Pryor isn't willing to entertain the idea of a position change four years into his pro career.

"If I can't play quarterback, I can't play football, I'm pretty much done," Pryor said this week, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

A former third-round supplemental draft selection of the Oakland Raiders, Pryor's first head coach in the NFL was current Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson.

While there's no guarantee that Pryor will stick with the Bengals beyond this week, the 25-year-old appears comfortable with the situation in Cincinnati given his history with Jackson.

"It comes down to the relationship with the coaches. As a quarterback, I don't feel like I ever had a relationship with any of my coaches I've had since college besides when I was with Hue the first time, but we had Carson (Palmer).

"So I think it's huge. You have to have a relationship and a fit with the OC and you have to be able to talk to him on any level and he'll understand you and you understand him."

With both AJ McCarron and Josh Johnson currently in place as Andy Dalton's backups, Pryor would have a long road ahead of him to make the final roster even if he does join the team for training camp this summer.

If any offensive staff can get the most out of his talents, however, it just may be the one Jackson leads in Cincinnati.
