Marcus Mariota: Expected To Start From Day 1 For TEN

Mariota is expected to be the starter from day one in Tennessee, ESPN.com reports.

Analysis:

Given all the pre-draft hype regarding a potential trade-up by the Eagles or Browns for Mariota, it initially seemed the Titans may have drafted him with hopes of making a deal. Subsequent comments from team leadership hint strongly in the other direction, as GM Ruston Webster and head coach Ken Whisenhunt are already talking about their plans for the young quarterback. While Philadelphia would have been a much better landing spot for Mariota's fantasy prospects, Whisenhunt will surely make some tweaks to his pocket-based offense to take advantage of the 21-year-old's mobility. Mariota won't be surrounded by great weapons, but a receiving corps comprised of Kendall Wright, Justin Hunter, Delanie Walker, Harry Douglas and Hakeem Nicks should at least be functional. It's possible the Titans will want Mariota to compete with Zach Mettenberger, but the latter would probably have to vastly outperform the former to have any shot at winning the starting job. Also worth keeping an eye on: the Titans could still add some help on offense in a draft that has good depth at running back and wide receiver. As is, Mariota's supporting case is hard to get excited about, even if it isn't quite awful.
