The NFL brought the hammer down on Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy, suspending him for 10 games for his role in an alleged incident of domestic violence in May 2014.

Hardy is appealing the suspension and ESPN's Adam Schefter passes along word that some people around the league expect Hardy to win - in a big way.

Hardy's suspension could be reduced from 10 to anywhere from two to six games, Schefter reports.

Such a reversal would be highly embarrassing for the NFL, especially with the league trying its best to implement a much stricter personal conduct policy.

Ray Rice won his appeal and so did Adrian Peterson (though his case was a little more complicated). Little by little, the NFL's power to impose seemingly arbitrary punishments is eroding.
