Maurice Jones-Drew to retire a Jaguar
Running back Maurice Jones-Drew will return to where his pro career began and retire Tuesday after signing a one-day contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jones-Drew announced his decision to retire from professional football in March.
The 30-year-old played his first eight NFL seasons for the Jaguars and earned three Pro Bowl nods. He spent 2014 with the Oakland Raiders.
A former second-round pick out of UCLA, Jones-Drew's career took an interesting trajectory. He was largely a complementary player in his first three years as a pro, with Fred Taylor acting as the centerpiece of the Jaguars' rushing attack.
After Taylor's departure, however, Jones-Drew rose to prominence and won the rushing title in 2011.
Jones-Drew retires as the Jaguars' all-time leader in touchdowns. He's second to Taylor in rushing yards.
