Chargers intend to discuss contract extension with Eric Weddle
Two days after Eric Weddle said he was disrespected by the club, the San Diego Chargers are scrambling to work on a contract extension for their star safety.
The 30-year-old said Monday he was 'completely pushed aside' when broaching the subject of a prospective extension.
Chargers general manager Tom Telesco tried to alleviate some of the damage Wednesday.
"We'll have discussions at some point. No doubt," Telesco said to Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego.
However, Telesco made it clear that Weddle's extension would be an afterthought until next week's draft concludes.
Although the three-time Pro Bowl free safety is on the wrong side of 30, he'd be a major asset to any club looking for an all-purpose safety as the Chargers' star is equally adept in coverage as he is in run support.
