Adrian Wilson ends his career as an Arizona Cardinal
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) Adrian Wilson played at New England and Chicago after leaving the desert.
His biggest contributions came when he played in Arizona and now he's going to go out as a Cardinal.
Wilson signed a contract with Arizona on Monday, leaving the NFL the way he came in: As a Cardinal.
Wilson spent 12 seasons with Arizona after being a third-round pick in the 2001 draft. He was a five-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro with the Cardinals.
A five-time captain at Arizona, Wilson is one of six players in NFL history to accumulate at least 25 sacks and 25 interceptions.
He had 987 tackles, 25 1/2 sacks, 27 interceptions and four touchdowns in 181 games, including 162 starts.
Since sacks became an official statistic in 1982, Wilson's sacks rank as the fourth-best total in league history among defensive backs and his eight sacks in 2005 were the most in a single season in NFL history by a defensive back.
''My whole life, all I ever wanted to do was matter,'' Wilson said.
