Report: Bucs ownership comfortable with Jameis Winston off the field

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have decided on the player they'll select with the first overall pick in next week's draft, NFL Network's Albert Breer reports.

It's unclear who the lucky player is, but it's widely expected to be either Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota.

The Buccaneers' lingering questions about each prospect have been answered, Breer reports.

Ownership is confident in Winston's ability to stay out of trouble off the field. This is particularly notable in light of recent reports suggesting Darcie Glazer Kassewitz, one of the Glazer siblings who have run the team since former owner Malcolm Glazer's death, raised questions about whether Winston should be the face of the franchise.

Similarly, Buccaneers coaches are confident in Mariota's ability to develop as a passer. New offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter is an up-tempo specialist who has ties to Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich, so he would seem to be a great fit for Mariota's skill set.

With the draft still 10 days away, there's little incentive for the Buccaneers to make their decision known. Instead, the team is expected to stay quiet and remain open to any last-minute, blockbuster trade offers that may arrive.
