Andre Johnson says he didn't sign with Colts to get back at Texans

Troy Taormina / USA TODAY Sports

Nobody embodied the Houston Texans more than Andre Johnson.

After spending 12 years with the Texans and accumulating numerous franchise records, Johnson now finds himself with a division rival. Even though the split with Houston was less than amicable, Johnson insists he didn't join the Indianapolis Colts to get back at the Texans.

"Everybody thinks that I went to the Colts to try and get back at the Texans and stuff like that," Johnson told Brian T. Smith of the Houston Chronicle. "That had nothing to do with it. I just went to the ... place where I felt was the best fit for me and where I can have a chance to win a championship."

The Colts certainly are championship contenders, especially with the addition of Johnson. Despite the Texans cutting him loose in an attempt to get younger, Johnson still posted 85 catches and more than 900 yards last season.

"It wasn’t about circling (game) dates or nothing against the Texans. I had 12 great years here. Been around some great people, built some great relationships, a lot of great friends. Houston’s always going to be my home. I have nothing bad against the Texans."

Johnson may not be circling games on the calendar, but his Colts will see the Texans twice in 2015. You can bet Johnson will have a little more motivation for those contests, regardless of what his outward appearance reflects.
