Report: Jaguars' Marcedes Lewis restructures contract

It appears that Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis will be staying with the team after all.

The restructuring means Lewis will take a $4.15 million pay cut, with his salary going from $6.80 million to $2.65 million. The move saves the Jags $4.4 million in cap space.

Lewis restructured the final year of his contract Saturday, according to Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union.

Reports surfaced earlier this month that the Jags were willing to trade Lewis. The notion was logical, considering they signed Julius Thomas to a big money deal in free agency and Lewis managed only 18 catches in eight games last season.

Thomas figures to receive the bulk of the snaps at tight end, but by keeping Lewis at a likely more cap-friendly price, it opens up more options for Jacksonville's offense.

Using the 6-foot-6 Lewis along with Thomas in the red zone would be a difficult matchup for opposing defenses.
