Report: Dispute between Dez Bryant's advisers stifling contract talks

Geoff Burke / USA TODAY Sports

A dispute between Dez Bryant's adviser David Wells and an attorney handling his contract negotiations could complicate Bryant's wishes to receive a long-term contract from the Dallas Cowboys.

An attorney working for Roc Nation, the Jay Z founded entertainment and sports agency, sent a cease-and-desist letter to Wells seeking to end his formal business relationship with Bryant. The letter also sought to revoke power of attorney from Wells, according to Jean-Jacques Taylor of ESPN.

The Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Bryant in March, which will pay him $13 million for one year. Bryant has yet to sign the offer and the Cowboys reportedly want Wells to remain a close adviser to Bryant in an effort to keep the troubled receiver on the straight and narrow.

Wells has an agreement running through 2016 with Bryant and says he is unwilling to turn over any documents regarding his business or personal relationship with Bryant. The two have been linked since Bryant's time at Oklahoma State.

Until the legalities between members of Dez's team are wrapped up, it appears negotiations will remain at a standstill.
