Sammy Watkins vouches for EJ Manuel as Bills' starting QB

Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan promised an open competition for the team's starting quarterback position, but in Sammy Watkins's opinion, there's already a clear favorite.

Watkins, the Bills' best wide receiver in 2014, vouched for EJ Manuel to win the job.

"That's my guy. I believe in him 100%. He's changed," Manuel said to reporters Wednesday.

Manuel was picked with the Bills' first-round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft. It's been difficult to project how his long-term future will turn out, as he's shown signs of becoming a legitimate NFL starter, while also looking completely lost at times.

The 25-year-old was yanked from the lineup last season after throwing a pick-6 to J.J. Watt in a catastrophic performance against the Houston Texans in Week 4 that dropped the Bills to 2-2. Kyle Orton took over for the remainder of the campaign but retired promptly after the season ended.

Manuel will have to fend off Tyrod Taylor, Jeff Tuel and Matt Cassel in training camp, with the latter being his foremost - and, in actuality, only - real competition.
