Rex Ryan: Jace Amaro is 'full of s---, and I’ll remind him of that when we play'

Upon joining the Buffalo Bills as their new head coach, Rex Ryan invigorated a once-dormant rivalry between the Bills and cross-state rival New York Jets.

Ryan was fired by the Jets on Dec. 29 after his club missed the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. Shortly thereafter, Ryan gladly accepted the Bills' head coaching position.

Bills and Jets supporters will be circling their calenders twice when their schedules are released, after Ryan made a number of incendiary remarks in a lengthy profile by Monday Morning Quarterback's Jenny Vrentas

"They were trying to pull away from me," Ryan said of an April 2013 meeting where Jets personnel singled out his brash persona. "Like it was my fault, somehow, that people identified the Jets with me, and that was a bad thing and not a good thing. I was just being who I was. From that point on I knew I wasn't going to be long for that job."

Ryan said he anticipated his tenure with the Jets ending, ahead of the 2014 campaign.

"When the draft and free agency didn't go the way I would have liked it to, I was concerned,” Ryan said. "That's why I bought a house in Tennessee. I didn't know what the hell was going to happen, but I knew I would need someplace to live. That I was probably going to get fired."

Jets tight end Jace Amaro recently said that the team was undisciplined under Ryan's regime, a contention that the Bills' head coach vehemently refuted.

"He's full of s---, and I’ll remind him of that when we play him. Look, we weren't perfect, and I never said we were going to be perfect. But that's a f—— B.S. comment. But, hey, he's happy that he's got a different coach in place. We'll see how happy he is when I play against him."

Buffalo revamped its offense by adding star running back LeSean McCoy, wide receiver Percy Harvin and tight end Charles Clay to the team. Bills general manager Doug Whaley credits Ryan with the team's drastic makeover.

"We're not only a national brand, we're starting to be a destination because of Rex and what we’re building here," Whaley said. "We're trying to be a serious contender."

Ryan scoffed at the notion that the Bills haven't retained a head coach for more than three-and-a-half years after Marv Levy retired. With Ryan in the mix, Buffalo's potential rise to Super Bowl contender will be must-watch television.
