Dolphins reportedly remain focused on extension for Ryan Tannehill

Tim Fuller / USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins locked up center Mike Pouncey with a lucrative contract extension recently, and now they're turning their attention to Ryan Tannehill.

The Dolphins indicated last month that they were hoping to extend their quarterback this offseason, and the plan remains to get him signed before Week 1, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network

Tannehill turned a corner in 2014, with a career-high 66.4 completion percentage, 27 touchdowns and more than 4,000 yards passing.

As encouraging as his growth was, Miami still needs to add weapons around Tannehill. Mike Wallace and Charles Clay are gone, and adding Jordan Cameron and Kenny Stills can hardly be considered an upgrade. Expect the Dolphins to search for another receiver in the draft.

The Dolphins can still opt to pick up Tannehill's fifth-year option for 2016 if they can't reach an agreement on an extension.
