The Houston Texans have selected cornerback Kevin Johnson out of Wake Forest with the 16th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Houston has one of the top defensive lines in the league, but its pass defense leaves a lot to be desired. The Texans gave up almost 4,000 yards through the air in 2014 and Johnson should help them bring that number down.

With division rival Indianapolis Colts adding to Andrew Luck's arsenal by signing Andre Johnson to go along with T.Y. Hilton, it's paramount for the Texans to be ready to defend the Colts' aerial attack.

Strengths

  • Great instincts and ability to break on the ball.
  • Competitive mental makeup and effort as a tackler make him an asset.
  • Excels in zone coverage, where he can use his smarts to anticipate throws underneath, but also possesses good enough speed to cover deep.
  • Can play on special teams right away after excelling as a gunner in college.

Weaknesses

  • Needs to add strength to his thin frame to compete against bigger NFL bodies.
  • Finds himself out of position at times, taking bad penalties on multiple occasions as a senior.
  • Missed tackles and failed to wrap up ball-carriers too often due to size and strength, not effort.
