The New Orleans Saints have added a pass rusher to bolster their struggling defense.

New Orleans signed Anthony Spencer to a one-year deal on Friday. Spencer spent the past eight seasons with the Dallas Cowboys and managed only a half sack last year in 13 games.

The 31-year-old was slowed by recovering from microfracture surgery on his knee, that limited him to one game in 2013.

Spencer enjoyed his best season in 2012 with 11 sacks, when current Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan was in Dallas.

The Saints finished 31st on defense last season and managed only 34 sacks. New Orleans will likely be hoping they catch lightning in a bottle with the pass rusher on a short-term deal, but also expect them to upgrade the defensive side of the ball early in the draft.
