The New York Jets officially signed running back Stevan Ridley on Monday.

Ridley will join the Jets after four seasons in New England. The power back played in just six games last season because of a torn ACL and should compete with Chris Ivory for carries in the Jets' backfield.

He had previously met with the Miami Dolphins and Washington Redskins

The 26-year-old's best season came in 2012, when he ran for more than 1,200 yards and 12 scores. Fumbling issues plagued Ridley, though, and after coughing it up a total of six times over the 2012 and 2013 campaigns, he fell out of favor with Bill Belichick.

Ridley and his power-running style figures to fit offensive coordinator Chan Gailey's schemes well. Gailey has succeeded in offenses without elite quarterbacks and will have to work his magic again on the ground with the Jets.
