The Green Bay Packers are interested in re-signing fullback John Kuhn, continuing their trend of rewarding players internally.

Green Bay re-signed wide receiver Randall Cobb and right tackle Bryan Bulaga early in free agency, but has been relatively quiet since.

Kuhn excels as a blocker in the run game, opening up holes for Eddie Lacy and James Starks.

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said he wanted to retain the two-time Pro-Bowler on Thursday.

"Absolutely," McCarthy said to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel about bringing Kuhn back for another season. "I've always looked at the fullback and tight end position as one. I feel you have to have flexibility and versatility within those two positions. It keeps you in and out of a number of different personnel groups."

Kuhn is an integral, if underrated, part of the Packers' offense, winning a Super Bowl with the club in 2010. The 32-year-old also rushed for 85 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries last season.
