Report: Browns, Falcons facing severe discipline for unspecified violations

Ken Blaze / USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons have been informed they'll face severe discipline for undisclosed incidents, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter

Although the violations weren't disclosed, it's widely believed the Browns will be penalized for allegedly sending text messages from the press box to the sideline during games, an infraction of NFL rules.

Browns head coach Mike Pettine confirmed in January league investigators visited the team's facilities as part of an ongoing investigation.

Atlanta will likely be penalized for allegedly pumping artificial crowd noise through the Georgia Dome during Falcons' home games over the past two seasons. A member of the Falcons' personnel told Schefter in February the team was cooperating with the league's investigation.

It remains unclear what penalties will be issued, but many have speculated that both clubs may lose a draft pick for their respective alleged infractions.
