Titans surprised by Jake Locker's retirement

Dale Zanine / USA TODAY Sports

Tennessee Titans quarterback Jake Locker was one of several players to retire out of the blue this offseason, and not even the Titans saw it coming.

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt didn't know anything about it until Locker made the announcement.

"Same time you guys did," Whisenhunt said when asked when he learned of Locker's decision. "I asked him how he was doing with the rehab from his shoulder, and he said he was doing great and working. But we didn’t talk about that."

The 27-year-old played with the Titans for four campaigns but never started more than 11 games in a season.

He was an unrestricted free agent at the time of his retirement, after Tennessee opted not to pick up his fifth-year option.
