Titans interim CEO, president says team isn't for sale

Brett Davis / US PRESSWIRE

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The man selected by Tennessee's owners to oversee the Titans and help search for a new president and chief executive officer says they have made it clear this NFL franchise is not for sale.

Steve Underwood spoke to The Associated Press by telephone Tuesday from Phoenix where the league meetings are underway.

He was named interim president and CEO when Tommy Smith announced his retirement Friday. That move has raised questions about whether the family of the late Bud Adams was preparing to sell the team he founded.

Underwood says the owners are the only people who can take part in a sale and they tell him the Titans are not for sale.
