Ken Whisenhunt: If Titans draft Marcus Mariota, he'll definitely be Week 1 starter

The Tennessee Titans own the second overall selection in the draft and have plenty of options for what to do with the pick.

While some analysts predict the team will ultimately decide to stick with second-year quarterback Zach Mettenberger as starter and bolster its defense in the draft, there's growing sentiment that the Titans can't afford to pass on Oregon passer Marcus Mariota.

Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt was remarkably frank when asked about Mariota at the NFL's annual coaches breakfast Tuesday.

"If (Mariota) comes to us at No. 2, he's definitely going to be the Day 1 starter," Whisenhunt told reporters. "I'm very impressed by Marcus."

Mariota isn't necessarily a great scheme fit for Whisenhunt's offense, but teams rarely get the chance to draft a franchise quarterback. The Titans may be unable to resist taking a shot on Mariota's vast upside.
