New Rams quarterback Nick Foles discusses trade from Eagles

The opening day of free agency often alters the landscape of the league in dramatic fashion, but Nick Foles likely assumed he was safe from the pervading chaos.

With league-wide pandemonium surfacing, the Philadelphia Eagles and St. Louis Rams engineered a shocking trade, as the Eagles moved Foles, a 2015 fifth-round pick and a 2016 third-round selection to the Rams in exchange for Sam Bradford and a 2015 fifth-round pick.

Foles discussed the trade, his tenure with the Eagles and how he's adjusting to his new club in an interview Friday with Monday Morning Quarterback's Jenny Vrentas

"Anything is possible in the NFL, but in my mind, I wasn't even thinking about it. In my mind, I was going to be in Philadelphia, and be the quarterback, and be leading the guys I have been leading for several years, because that's how I think," Foles said to Vrentas.

The 26-year-old threw for 13 touchdowns against 10 interceptions in eight games for the Eagles last season, before a broken collarbone forced him onto injured reserve, ending his 2014 campaign.

Foles brought up his apparent frustration with being unable to play the latter half of the season.

"It was emotional. When I got injured, we were winning some tough football games. We were atop the NFC East, and we were really fighting down to the wire and winning some late ones in the fourth quarter, and then I went down. You really want to be out there with your teammates helping them win, but you take on a different role."

Although he was surprised by the trade, Foles is looking forward to being the Rams' starting quarterback.

"Coach Fisher really likes the run game, and we have talented running backs here. As a quarterback, you have to have a great run game because that opens up everything else. I'm sure some of the concepts will be very similar to what I ran with Chip and Andy Reid. I'm excited to learn everything and go out there and execute it."
