Russell Wilson is about to get paid.

The Seattle Seahawks could be on the verge of a big - and unique - contract extension with the 26-year-old quarterback, ESPN.com reporter Terry Blount said while appearing on 710 ESPN in Seattle on Friday.

"From what I've been told they're very close, they're just trying to make sure every single thing is in place before they go forward with this," Blount said. "I think it's going to be bigger and crazier and different from what any contract has ever been."

Wilson is entering the final year of the four-year, $2.99-million rookie deal he signed with the Seahawks in 2012. There's been speculation that his new contract could be fully guaranteed, which Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio spoke about Thursday on 710 ESPN.

"When (general manager John Schneider) says that it may require creativity and outside the box thinking, and when Russell Wilson is represented by a baseball agent, the obvious conclusion - and this has gained some steam among those who pay close attention to the NFL - is that Russell Wilson could get a contract that is fully guaranteed," Florio said. "Well beyond two or three years - maybe fully guaranteed for the entire term of the contract."

In 48 career games with the Seahawks, Wilson has thrown for 9,950 yards, 72 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. He's also rushed for 1,877 yards and 11 touchdowns on 308 carries.
