The Indianapolis Colts agreed to terms with free-agent linebacker Nate Irving on Friday.

Contract details were not included with the Colts' official announcement, but Irving is signing a three-year deal worth up to $9.25 million, according to Josina Anderson of ESPN.

Irving spent the first four years of his career with the Denver Broncos after joining the team as a third-round selection in 2011. He excelled as an eight-game starter in 2014.

Though an ACL tear suffered in November could impact his status for the beginning of the 2015 season, Irving should have the opportunity to earn a key role at one of the two inside linebacker spots in the Colts' 3-4 front when healthy.

The 26-year-old's contributions to one of the NFL's best run defenses could prove to be a significant addition to a Colts unit that desperately needs to improve in that area of the game.
