NFC West Notebook: Borland's retirement shocks the NFL; Fitzgerald advocates for Peterson

Seattle Seahawks

Carroll expects Thomas to be ready for season. Earl Thomas underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum, but Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll expects his superstar free safety to be ready for the start of the 2015 season.

Rubin to Seahawks. Strengthening their already-formidable defensive line, the Seahawks signed defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin. Rubin is expected to challenge for a starting spot. 

Irvin pokes fun at new teammate Graham. Bruce Irvin and Jimmy Graham have a contentious history, and Irvin welcomed Graham to the club with requisite Seahawks candor. It appears that the two still have some issues to resolve. 

Arizona Cardinals

Fitzgerald advocates for Peterson. Adrian Peterson reportedly wants to play for the Cardinals, and Larry Fitzgerald is a strong proponent of the former MVP joining the club. 

Cardinals viewed as prime destination. The Cardinals had quite a free-agency haul, gaining a reputation as one of the best franchises to play for according to its newest members.

Weatherspoon fighting through Achilles. Sean Weatherspoon is poised to be one of the Cardinals' defensive leaders, and is fighting through an Achilles injury that kept him out of the entire 2014 season.

San Francisco 49ers 

Borland speaks on retirement. Chris Borland's decision to retire after one season shocked the football world, and the 24-year-old expanded on his decision to quit the game.

Thomas suffers torn ACL. Chase Thomas tore his ACL while working out, the latest development in a nightmare offseason for the 49ers' once-revered group of linebackers. 

York puts Harbaugh on blast. Jim Harbaugh has moved on to become the University of Michigan's head coach, but 49ers CEO Jed York threw some parting shots, criticizing the offense for its struggles amongst other things.

St. Louis Rams 

Rams sign Reynolds. The St. Louis Rams signed offensive lineman Garrett Reynolds, adding versatility to their line. Reynolds can play either guard or tackle. 

Inside Kroenke's LA plan. ESPN The Magazine's David Fleming breaks down Stan Kroenke's ambitions to move the Rams to Los Angeles in a lengthy profile. 

Foles embraces new start. Nick Foles was traded to the Rams in exchange for Sam Bradford last week, and embraced a chance at a new beginning after coming over from the Philadelphia Eagles.
