Brian Hoyer confirms he won't be back with Browns

In news that should surprise no one, Brian Hoyer says he won't be back with the Cleveland Browns next season.

With the Browns signing Josh McCown, the writing was on the wall for the soon-to-be free agent.

"It's good for both sides to get a fresh start and go our separate ways," Hoyer told Jim Corbett of USA TODAY Sports. "Being from here, I'll always root for the Browns. I know I'm going to be continuing my football career somewhere."

Despite a season with more downs than ups in Cleveland, Hoyer still believes he can be a starting quarterback.

"You don't know where you'll be living in two months," he said. "The good thing is I'll have an opportunity to be on an NFL team, and hopefully, compete for a starting job. ... I have a lot to offer whatever team I go to. My best football is still ahead."

Hoyer struggled mightily in 2014, albeit with very few weapons in the Browns' offense. It's unlikely he lands a starting gig, but a team looking for an experienced backup could be a good fit.
