Sidney Rice, Steve Weatherford plan to donate brains to science

Former NFL receiver Sidney Rice and New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford plan to have their brains donated to science when they pass on.

The pair told FOX News on Tuesday that they support research on chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).

"I’m in it more to help generations after us," Weatherford said. "We only have one body, and you can always get surgery on your knee or ankle, or a hip replacement, but you only get one brain, there’s no transplant for that."

Rice believes he has suffered 10 concussions, with the first coming at the age of eight.

"Nobody was really paying a lot of attention to the concussions. Guys would get hurt, get a concussion and go right back into the game," Rice said. "Now they’re taking a lot more steps, a lot more tests before you can get back out on the field."

Weatherford thinks he only had two concussions, but hopes his brain can be compared with that of other players who suffered more.
