Report: Cardinals offered Dockett deal worth up to $4 million before release

The Arizona Cardinals parted ways with Darnell Dockett on Friday, but the team is reportedly holding out hope that the veteran defensive tackle will return to the desert at a reduced rate.

Before his release, the Cardinals offered Dockett a one-year deal worth $2.5 million, with an opportunity to earn up to $4 million through incentives, according to Kent Somers of The Arizona Republic

Releasing Dockett created $6.8 million in salary-cap space for the Cardinals, putting them about $15 million under the cap. Arizona would still like Dockett back, though, and is gambling that he doesn't receive a better offer from another team, Somers reports.

Dockett's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told Somers that his client is drawing a lot of interest from other teams. Rosenhaus declined to reveal which teams have reached out to Dockett, but said the situation should be resolved by the end of the week.

ESPN's Ed Werder reported that the San Francisco 49ers were hosting Dockett on a free-agent visit Monday.
