Josh McCown expects to start for Browns in 2015

Newly-acquired quarterback Josh McCown believes he will be the Cleveland Browns' starter entering the 2015 season.

McCown signed a three-year contract worth $14 million Saturday, and is expected to compete with Johnny Manziel and Connor Shaw for the team's starting position.

While it's not official, it seems apparent that Brian Hoyer will not be with the club next season, as he was informed of the club's decision to sign McCown by general manager Ray Farmer and head coach  Mike Pettine.

McCown spoke Monday about his ambition to lead the Browns next year.

"That's my expectation right now," the veteran quarterback said on ESPN Radio's "Mike & Mike" on Monday. "We'll see, as things unfold, what their plan is, but that's my expectation. I'm going to compete as such to do that."

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the Browns will be looking to add another quarterback in the offseason to challenge the incumbent quartet.

McCown was excited about the opportunity in Cleveland, and viewed the Browns' positional staff as an asset.

"If I go there, can we win football games and be productive," McCown said. "NFL coaching experience (of offensive coordinator John DeFilippo and quarterbacks coach Kevin O'Connell) was big for me."

Cleveland is attempting to turn around an offseason that saw wide receiver Josh Gordon suspended for a year, and Manziel enter rehab. McCown struggled with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but his maturity may provide some much-needed stability for the Browns.
