It appears that the writing is on the wall for Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer.

Hoyer was reportedly contacted by Browns general manager Ray Farmer and head coach Mike Pettine about the team's decision to sign fellow quarterback Josh McCown, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Northeast Ohio Media Group.

The 29-year-old is set to become an unrestricted free agent this spring.

Hoyer told reporters in February that he'd weigh all of his options before considering re-signing with the Browns and expressed frustration earlier in February with Josh Gordon's suspension and offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan leaving after one season.

It was a roller-coaster season for Hoyer and the Browns, after he led the club to a 7-4 mark through 11 games.

However, Hoyer imploded down the stretch, throwing zero touchdowns against seven interceptions in his final three starts and forcing the Browns to turn to rookie Johnny Manziel.

Cleveland lost its final five games and finished last in the AFC North.
