NFC West Notebook: Cardinals offer llamas contract; 49ers bid on college title game

Seattle Seahawks

Carroll to receive honorary degree. Pete Carroll will receive an honorary degree from USC at commencement, the school announced. Carroll built USC into a juggernaut, though his wins from the 2005-06 season were vacated. 

Is Maxwell good as gone? Byron Maxwell is viewed by many as the best free-agent cornerback available. Although general manager John Schneider wants to retain him, he's likely to sign with another club on a gargantuan deal, and Seattle has to prepare to find his replacement. 

Simon may have undergone surgery. Tharold Simon played through the playoffs in obvious discomfort and he may have had surgery on his shoulder. Kam Chancellor tweeted well wishes for Simon and the cornerback's agent refused to comment. 

Arizona Cardinals

Cardinals re-sign Sowell. The Arizona Cardinals re-signed offensive tackle Bradley Sowell to a one-year deal. Sowell was a restricted free agent and played in all 16 games. 

Llamas offered contract. A pair of llamas escaped in the Phoenix area Thursday, drawing international attention. The pair was elusive enough to get a contract offer from the Cardinals. 

Ginn Jr. released. After one season with the club, the Cardinals released kick-return specialist Ted Ginn Jr. on Monday. Ginn Jr. caught 14 passes for 190 yards. 

San Francisco 49ers

49ers bid on college title game. With a brand-new stadium intact, the San Francisco 49ers have bid to host the College Football Playoff championship game. Levi's Stadium was used for the first time last year and it's unconfirmed whether they'll go after the 2018, 2019 or 2020 game. 

Rugby star heading to San Francisco? The 49ers are one of the teams interested in signing rugby star Jarryd Hayne. Hayne has also met with the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions. 

Could Bush join 49ers? Reggie Bush was released by the Detroit Lions on Wednesday, but may have a number of suitors. ESPN's Paul Gutierrez breaks down why the 49ers could be a good fit for the former Heisman winner. 

St. Louis Rams

Rams release Langford. The St. Louis Rams released defensive tackle Kendall Langford on Thursday. Langford recorded 25 tackles and a sack last season. 

Inglewood OKs new stadium for Rams: The Inglewood City Council approved plans to build a $2-billion stadium in their city, with Rams owner Stan Kroenke on board. Kroenke bought a massive plot of land in the city last year. 

Sam joins Dancing With The Stars. Rams draftee Michael Sam will participate on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars." Sam made international headlines after he became the first openly gay player to be drafted in the NFL. However, Sam was released by the club prior to the season.
