NFC South Notebook: Davis given key to city; Umenyiora not ready to retire

Atlanta Falcons

Osi Umenyiora not ready to hang 'em up. The veteran defensive end is planning to play at least one more year despite rumors at the end of last season that he was considering retirement.

Immediate impact pass-rusher available to Falcons. The way the draft is likely to shake out, the Falcons should have the option to take a talented pass-rusher with the eighth overall pick, according to Mel Kiper Jr.

Use of analytics not the Falcons' problem. With the Falcons receiving praise for their use of analytics in determining player value, many have questioned why the team has drafted poorly in recent years. But it's only part of the evaluation process.

Carolina Panthers

Thomas Davis awarded key to the city of Charlotte. The inspirational linebacker received the honor in a private meeting with city council members. Davis also won the NFL's Walter Payton Award this season.

Hardy seeking immediate reinstatement; NFL unsure. After missing the entire 2014 season, Greg Hardy is seeking immediate reinstatement by the NFL. The league believes he hasn't been disciplined, so can't be reinstated.

Panthers currently have $15M-plus in cap space. Based on the expected salary cap of $143 million, the Panthers currently have north of $15 million available and that's not including the expected $2 million freed up by DeAngelo Williams' release.

New Orleans Saints

Benson's request for appeal denied. The ruling that ousted Tom Benson as steward of his daughter's trust fund will stand, as an expedited appeal request has been denied.

Is Bush a good fit for the 2015 Saints? Now that running back Reggie Bush is free to sign with any team, should the Saints consider re-signing the one-time future cornerstone of the franchise?

Vic Beasley could be available for Saints at 13. The combine's workout warrior could be the perfect option for the Saints if he falls outside the top 10. ESPN's Todd McShay has him going to New Orleans in his latest mock.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Former Bucs coach Gruden likes both Winston and Mariota. Speaking about the team's future, Gruden indicated that Tampa has had decent talent at many positions of late except at quarterback. He thinks both Winston and Mariota will be good pros.

Josh McCown now negotiating with Buffalo Bills. The former starting quarterback of the Bucs is in talks with the Bills after being released earlier in the offseason. McCown struggled in Tampa. 

Bucs holding open tryout for cheerleaders. Auditions are set to begin on March 22 at USF Sun Dome. Prospective cheerleaders must be at least 18 and have a high school diploma.
