Ryan Mallett wants to stay with Texans

Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Quarterback Ryan Mallett said Wednesday he wants to return to the Houston Texans, but won't limit his options as free agency approaches, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reports.

"I’d like to come back," Mallett said during a charity appearance. "Hopefully, we can get something worked out."

The Texans have expressed a desire to re-sign the passer.

"It feels good that you’re wanted," Mallett said. "That’s better than not being wanted, I can tell you that."

Absent a contract extension prior to March 10, Mallett will become an unrestricted free agent.

In four years as a pro, three of which were spent backing up Tom Brady, Mallett has completed 42 of 79 pass attempts for 417 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. He appeared in three games for the Texans last season before ending the year on IR.
