Packers release A.J. Hawk

The Green Bay Packers have cut another member of their linebacking corps.

Green Bay released A.J. Hawk on Wednesday, the team announced.

The move will save the Packers $3.5 million in cap space, and comes five days after the team parted ways with Brad Jones.

"I spent nine great years in Green Bay. I had awesome teammates and coaches and a great medical staff and equipment staff. Many of them have become my closest friends," Hawk said. "We won a ton of games, as well as a Super Bowl, and I loved everything about playing for one of the greatest franchises in all of sports."

Hawk was effective for many years in Green Bay, but it was evident in 2014 that he was no longer the player he once was. His foot speed slipped and Hawk struggled in coverage against opposing tight ends.

Look for the Packers to address the inside linebacker spot early in the draft.
