Report: Patriots may pursue Percy Harvin if cut by Jets

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports / Reuters

The New England Patriots are expected to pursue wide receiver Percy Harvin if he's cut by the New York Jets, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

The Jets have until March 19 to decide whether to part ways with Harvin, whom they acquired in an October trade with the Seattle Seahawks. Harvin is owed $10.5 million in salary next season, but the Jets can save that entire amount by cutting him before the March deadline.

The Patriots are an estimated $3.9 million over the salary cap at the moment, but are believed to be negotiating a new deal with cornerback Darrelle Revis that would lower his $25-million cap hit. They would likely have to restructure several other contracts to make a run at Harvin, but after his mediocre 2014 campaign, they may be able to sign him to a one-year prove-it deal.
