Titans' Mettenberger confident he would beat out Winston or Mariota

The Tennessee Titans hold the second overall pick in the draft and are in prime position to select either Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota.

If they do, the quarterback currently atop the team's depth chart, Zach Mettenberger, says the rookie won't get on the field.

"They are obviously very talented guys … If they were here I think they would say the same thing: If we had to compete out there, I think I’d beat them out," Mettenberger told ESPN's Paul Kuharsky

Mettenberger, a sixth-round pick in 2014 who started six games as a rookie, showed enough promise that most analysts believe the Titans will opt to pass on drafting a quarterback and instead focus on bolstering their defense.

That said, it's hard to imagine Mettenberger – or any quarterback – winning a training camp battle with a top-two pick.

If the Titans draft a quarterback in the first round, the deck will be strongly tilted in that player's favor.
