Seahawks have made 'big offers' to Marshawn Lynch

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

Rumors have been swirling since the Super Bowl that Marshawn Lynch is considering retirement, but the Seattle Seahawks appear to be doing everything in their power to make sure he doesn't follow through with it.

Head coach Pete Carroll spoke at the NFL combine on Friday and stated the Seahawks have been talking to the running back about his contract.

"We've had big offers out there," Carroll said, as reported by Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com. "We continue to work with that and we're excited about the future. He's been an integral part of our program for five years we love the contributions that he's brought. He's a great character in the program and all of that. So we're excited to move ahead. We'd really like to move with that quickly."

Lynch held out of training camp for a week last year before the Seahawks bumped his salary up by $1.5 million. The offers Carroll speaks of are perhaps a way of ensuring Lynch doesn't pull a similar move this offseason.

The power back posted more than 1,300 yards in 2014 and set a career-high in touchdowns. If he does plan to play, he's likely to look for another increase in salary.
