San Diego mayor: Chargers deceived city, fans with L.A. stadium proposal

San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer believes the Chargers were deceptive in the way they went about crafting a joint proposal with the Oakland Raiders that would see the two teams build and share a stadium in Carson, Calif.

"The Chargers weren't being up front with San Diegans, they weren't being up front with their fans. ... That's not how you get things done," Faulconer said, according to Michael Smolens of U-T San Diego.

"We deserve an honest dialogue. What we saw speaks volumes about the true intentions and about what's been happening over the last few weeks."

The proposed stadium would be located 15 miles south of downtown Los Angeles and would cost around $1.7 billion to build.

"We are pursuing this stadium option in Carson for one straightforward reason: If we cannot find a permanent solution in our home markets, we have no alternative but to preserve other options to guarantee the future economic viability of our franchises," the organizations said in a statement given to Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times

Despite the Chargers' focus on Carson, Faulconer said he is more committed than ever to keeping the team in San Diego.

"San Diegans deserve for the team to stay here," he said.
