Bills talking to C.J. Spiller's representatives at the combine

The Buffalo Bills are making a late push to retain their pending free agents.

General manager Doug Whaley noted Thursday that the team increased talks with Jerry Hughes over the past 24 hours and he added they hope to do the same with C.J. Spiller.

"(Senior VP of Football Administration) Jim Overdorf, (President) Russ Brandon and (Contract Administrator) Kevin Meganck are meeting with his representation right here at the combine," Whaley said. "We’re hoping we can close the gap and get the deal done."

Spiller has been linked to the Jets in recent reports because of the familiarity with offensive coordinator Chan Gailey.

The Bills would hate to lose the explosive back to a division rival, but they are going to have to make Spiller a significant offer to keep him in Buffalo.
