49ers GM on Frank Gore: 'We're going to do what we can to get him back'

Frank Gore is set to hit free agency at the beginning of the new league year, but the San Francisco 49ers don't appear resigned to letting the veteran running back walk away just yet.

General manager Trent Baalke said he thinks Gore still has something left to offer while speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday, and the team will try to bring him back in 2015.

"The last two games of the season I think you saw what Frank (Gore) still has left in the tank ... I think he's still got it in him," Baalke said. "We're going to do what we can to get him back as a 49er."

Gore has run for 11,073 yards and 64 touchdowns over the course of his 10-year 49ers career, earning five trips to the Pro Bowl, including three consecutive ones from 2011-13.

While he'd be unlikely to return as the feature back, Gore could provide some key veteran depth at the running back position behind Carlos Hyde going forward.

If he and the 49ers can't agree to terms on a new deal by the time free agency officially opens, Gore's experience and incredibly consistent production would certainly land him a number of offers from other teams around the league.
